With our 50th Independence fresh in our memory, when we look back, is “Massa Day” really done? Yes we have a Constitution which makes us a Republic Sovereign to ourselves, but are we really free of a Monarch? How far have we let our leaders think they can go, and how far will we let them go before we are re-colonized completely? It’s real, it’s here, it’s in our face, the Political Colonization of Trinidad and Tobago.

Dr. Eric Williams said “Massa Day Done” which was a sentiment shared throughout the post-WW2 3rd World. For all his great accomplishment, and admittedly TnT wouldn’t have advanced in many ways (especially education) were not for him. Now that jack has been given his jacket, let’s look at the label on it marked “Daddy.” He was called the “Father of the Nation”, which some see as fitting as he played a major role in our push to Independence. This however was setting the stage for a long line of political/administrative twisting of the minds of our people for generations to come. Why is this wrong? Because the image of those in power must never appear as our “Parent.” A Parent has full authority over their Children. We are not the nation’s Children, we are nation’s Citizens. A Constitution has full authority over it’s Citizens. The metaphors went from being metaphors to being a way of thinking, ideas and ideals. Unless this is cut out there is little left for us to do but ask for handouts and sit down quietly in our play pens until we receive such.

This was the origins of what has set the stage for a 50 year struggle of Administrations past and present to Recolonize our Nation from within. The people of TnT are the ones who hold the power in this Constitutional provided Democracy. We need to collectively object the idea that the leaders are our parents and hold them accountable to those who lend the power to them to govern on our behalf, US!

“Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery”- Bob Marley

The end of the world was anticipated yesterday by much of the population, due to an interpretation of the Mayan Calender which ended on the 21.12.12. This would surely have been the end of us, that is if it wasn’t for the actions of the UNC Government. In a joint-release from the Office of the Primary Manipulator and the Assistant Gangster much was revealed about the cunning plot to cause mischief and anarchy among all true yellow/orange blooded Trinidadians.

The AG revealed shocking information that the Mayans were actually in fact all PNM! This is the first thing that must be identified in understanding how the Mayans predicted that TnT would have it’s greatest Government ever in 2012 and how this same Government prevented the end of the world. The Mayan’s were indeed masters of this art in creating the calender and at the same time creating mischief as the end of the world in 2012 would mean that the UNC would not be able to spend all of their poor man’s $58B Budget which would cure cancer and align us with the sun perfectly for every Trinidadian (except of course the PM) to get a dark tan and move us lower down on the caste system, making us all finally one people.

However thanks to a combination of constant worship of Kamla murti and a hidden clause in Section 34, Doomsday was avoided. When questioned about the details of how this actually operated to prevent disaster, the PM said, “I have been advised,” and the National Security Minister added “Everyone of the Mayans and ones who question this are of African Descent.” So with no further explanation needed we can see clearly why the Mayans were bias and wrong in their prediction/plot, the real reason for Section 34 passing, and why not to question the Government who is obviously in our best interest.

God Bless our Sweet Banana Republic.

Guilty: in HD

What happens when the short arm of TnT law reaches someone who is considered a local celebrity? That individual reaches just close enough for a Magistrate to deliver a device blow to the “I iz ‘so an so’, I could do what ah want!” mentality. What happens now when on top of this when the Guilty is the King of Soca, Government’s favorite entertainer, and Poster boy for large national companies? A clamor to this broken image by those in power knowing well what has been proven wrong in law, and ignoring the fact that the people of Trinidad and Tobago are thinking human beings rather than robots programmed by those in high positions.

Reigning Soca King Machel Montano was charged in 2007 with multiple assaults in public outside of the Zen Nightclub (PoS). The story in a nutshell was reported as the monarch getting into an altercation inside of the club over a spilled drink, the victim of the in club assault being kicked out (cuz the King is apparently never wrong). The royal posse decides that the vybz couldn’t have done there and followed him outside and assaulted him and others around. Fast forward to late 2012, Machel, despite hiring one of the most reputable attorney’s in TnT and having an air of arrogance in him getting off during the verdict hearing, was found Guilty of 5 Charges of Assault as well as using Obscene language in public. Roberts (another popular artist involved was found guilt as well) and 2 other Soca artists (who were found innocent) were also in the melee. Sentencing to be on January 17th.

Machel is best known to the Government as an official Cultural Ambassador the recipient of a $5 album which contained what they referred to as out 50th Independence Olympic Song but what the national community heard as a cat’s claw scraping against a sheet of rusted metal. So what happens as he is convinced? Former Extempo King, Current Minister Winston “Gypsy” Peters opens his mouth and shoves his foot in it faster than any soca or calypso beat could ever be. Not only does he say that the Magistrate should go easy on him, bu he attacks the media in saying that Machel is not a Criminal. Minister, the man was found GUILTY in a COURT OF LAW on 5 VIOLENT CRIMINAL CHARGES. What does that make him? And furthermore what do you have no respect for, the courts or our intelligence? Perhaps both…Gypsy, was a boss on the Extemo stage, Politics is similar but not the same.

Machel is know as the poster boy of sponsors Bmobile and Caribbean Airlines as well (under State Board control), both making their statements quickly that they “Stand by him.” Both of these companies in doing this have displayed that they are disgusting excuses for corporations. No much we can expect I guess from 4G service that fails constantly and an major Airline that cannot even cover their expenses let alone turn a profit. As harsh as that was, it is the truth, he is now guilty of 5 Criminal charges, what is there to stand by, Criminal Activity? When Tiger Woods was revealed to have been cheating, his sponsors dropped him faster than his wife. Why? Not only is it bad for the company’s product sales in terms of product association, but it is a matter of Business ethics. Whether or not there was Government interference as these companies are owned by the State is unknown, but it doesn’t look good on anyone either way.

A Rule of Law is that no penalty must be imposed for anything other than breech of law, so the Government could have gotten away with appointing him as an Ambassador even when he was on the charges (although it was in bad taste). Now that he has been proven Guilty, where do we go from here? The PM made a statement that he should face the law and the consequences. Madam PM, if you wanted to make a statement and do the right thing, remove him from his post as Cultural Ambassador. He is a convicted felon, undeserving of representing us in a diplomatic capacity, or in anyway as endorsed by the Government.

Dicey’s concept of the Rule of Law claims that Everyone is equal in the eyes of the law, and that extends to mean that the penalty must be just, which is up to the discretion of the Magistrate on January 17th. In this way the Magistrate will have to consider 3 basic options: A Fine, Community Service, or Jail time. A man that can hire an S.C. for the matter and receives $10s Millions in one season will not be at any disadvantage in being fined, so cross that. Community service (motivational appearances) , while it may seem good at first glace, how much can a man serve in this capacity when he is the spokesman for 3Zero Rum and on stage dry humping whatever is in front of him at night? This is less than a slap on the wrist, and if anything may lead him to gain more support, where is the penalty there? It is clear that he is not a regular person so the law should take these factors into consideration and the only equitable option would be to jail him. The jail time prescribed by law for his crimes are 2 years minimum- 5 years maximum. This is not only what is feasible but what is needed, not only to be fair in law, and to bring him back to reality about this behaviour, but to set the precedent that a local celebrity entertainer is not above the average man in rights and treatment.

“that the law was the golden met-wand and measure to try the causes of the subjects; and which protected His Majesty in safety and peace: with which the King was greatly offended, and said, that then he should be under the law, which was treason to affirm, as he said; to which I said, that Bracton saith, quod Rex non debed esse sub homine, sed sub Deo et lege (That the King ought not to be under any man but under God and the law.).”
– English Chief Justice Sir Edward Coke, Case of Proclamations 1611.

Political Youth (Non)Development

Posted: December 6, 2012 in Uncategorized

What is worse for a young person, standing still, or going backwards? Not being recognized or fading into irrelevance from an early age? And what happens when it is a collective group of organized youths that has been drawn to abide by the hive mentality, how much worse is it? This is the state of the nation’s Youth Arms of their political parties. The PNM Youth League is stagnant much in the way that the Opposition seems powerless, and the UNC Youth Arm is flailing about in the same shallow pool of sycophancy that the Government has taught them to adhere to. As for the UNC Light (COP) Youths, well if you know of their existence at all, you know more than the average man on the street, let us leave it at that.

The PNM Youth League for some time now has proven to be inactive outside of themselves. A document signed here and an event there (that no one hears about anyway), seems to be the same leaf blowing in the political breeze, not noticed, non concerning. This points to a sense of the management being clueless and of the Youth League members at the very least suffering from the lack-of-direction syndrome that is currently plaguing the Adult section of the Band (Getting into Government is not considered for any substantive purpose, direction). Guess there is nowhere to go from here but up, right? Well they better get to gutting out the Youth League of personnel who are holding them back and the hot air of some which is occupying the space where growth, empowerment and development is suppose to be. Impotence, whether of choice or circumstance cannot take anyone forward.

The UNC Youth Arm. Well what can be said of their recent actions which underline the mentality there, that Dana Seetahal S.C. did not already say? The crocus bag of ‘rubbish’ that is spewing from it’s executive’s mouth on almost a daily basis is sickening to say the least in the minor and grand scheme of things. On the minor end there is the constant daily banter of loyalists and sycophants (some both) that you would swear they are being paid to say (who knows) with a straight face and the same plastic expression. The retort has been a regular attack on the character of the individuals who oppose their Adult (free drinks) section, and the lifting on a pedestal of their ‘Leaders’ in public releases. What is sad is that many statements amount to plain out Lies about matters that were not even contested. How can someone say they plain out lie without proof? Simple, there is. While there is not hard evidence in the public’s possession of the PM being drunk on alcohol  and being drunk on power is considered a subjective view, statements such as ‘Crime has been reduced’ can easily be seen for what it is when the Police Crime statistics indicate otherwise. Brass face lies in these important instances amounts to a despicable manipulation of the genuine ignorance and complacency that many Trinis tend to hold as their comfort zone. No amount of protests of Youths Arm members who are receiving paid positions in the Government/Public Sector can cover up what is really going on.

The role of Youths in the 21st century is far different from the 20th century. Youths were once looked at as having to grow up into adulthood to follow the trend of the mold set. Now Youths are challenged with having to have their own input into society and set the mold for themselves which could, if guided by the wisdom of those who hold it, result in real social, political, and economical changes (among others). The choice now that the current political parties are offering are either to remain in indefinite limbo, or to sell your soul to the devil. What is even sadder is that the Youth “Leaders” who are holding an elected post are not only allowing this to prevail but are encouraging it by compliance. Want to be a real Leader? Stand up to the wrongs of the adults from the inside and dare to show them the way with full conviction if they are lost. A Lamb has no place among Lions, and if you are just there to be eaten, you serve no constructive purpose to those whom you claim to Lead.
